Our fall edition of the Medical Education newsletter includes stories about the MD and PA White Coat ceremonies, a recap of our Citizen Developer Workshop, and a history of the Simulated Participant Program.
Also noted are several upcoming special events, including those hosted by our Programs for Humanities in Medicine and Biomedical Ethics, and the Center for Medical Education. I encourage you to explore our upcoming opportunities to learn, collaborate, innovate, and network.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new and returning students and my gratitude to the faculty and staff who support our educational efforts both in the classroom and behind the scenes.
“The white coat is not a symbol of status, of privilege, or accomplishment,” said Wolfram Goessling, MD, PhD, Ensign Professor of Internal Medicine and chair of internal medicine at Yale School of Medicine (YSM). “It is a symbol of humility, of service, and of learning.”
At YSM, one of the ways in which students and clinicians can practice patient-focused communication and care is by engaging in practice scenarios with simulated participants (SPs).
The Citizen Developer Workshop, hosted by YSM's Educational Technology & Innovation (ETI) team, empowered users at the point of need, while reducing bottlenecks, and remaining compliant with Yale’s privacy and security standards.
Forty PA students from across the United States and India received their white coat on August 28, marking the start of their journey toward becoming clinicians.
YSM’s newest MD elective prepares future physician leaders by providing students practical skills to engage with the conditions and systems that shape the health of their patients and communities.
