FEEDBACK NEEDED - HELP IMPROVE YOUR TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCE: Health Sciences IT is working to improve how our community—faculty, staff, students, and researchers—navigate the technology platforms at both Yale University (YU) and Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS). To make meaningful improvements, we need your feedback!
We’re inviting you to take a brief, 5-minute survey that will help us better understand your experience with the tools and systems you use every day. Your insights will guide us in:
Identifying the tools and platforms you rely on at YU and YNHHS
Understanding the challenges you face when accessing and managing systems across both institutions
Exploring opportunities to improve integration and ease of use
As a thank you, at the end of the survey, you’ll have the option to sign up for a 30-minute interview with our research team to provide more in-depth feedback. These interviews will start on March 17, 2025, and if you choose to participate, you will be sent a scheduling link.

ENTERPRISE ANALYTICS LAUNCHES YALE HEALTH DATA MART PROJECT: In an effort aimed at enhancing data management and reporting capabilities, the Enterprise Analytics team launched a new project to construct a data mart for Yale Health. The effort is designed to create a robust, data-driven infrastructure that encompasses key aspects of Yale Health's operations, including membership data clinical pharmacy information, and claims data. By developing this centralized data domain, the project will enable seamless access to and reporting on valuable healthcare data, ensuring better decision-making and service delivery for our members.
The primary goal of the data mart is to implement standardized data management practices that streamline reporting and make data more accessible. Ultimately, this will facilitate intuitive reporting, providing stakeholders with easy-to-understand, actionable insights. This work will also lay the foundation for future expansions, ensuring that Yale Health can adapt to evolving data needs over time.
ANLYAN CENTER GROSS ANATOMY LABS AND CLASSROOMS RECEIVE UPDATES: Technology Support Services and Endpoint Engineering recently completed an IT equipment refresh at the Anlyan Center (TAC) for the Gross Anatomy Labs and classrooms. From July 2024 to February 2025, 74 Mac Mini M4 Pro computers, 27” 4K monitors, and other peripheral devices were installed, enhancing the learning environment with up-to-date technology. The installation was carefully coordinated to minimize disruption to classroom activities.
This project introduced Mac zero-touch provisioning, improving efficiency and reducing setup time. The upgrades provide students and educators with advanced tools that enhance the educational experience and support a seamless learning environment in the Anatomy Labs.
HEALTH SCIENCES IT PARTICIPATES IN 2025 CORNELL AI HACKATHON: Three staff from Health Sciences IT (HSIT) recently participated as mentors in the 2025 Cornell AI Hackathon, an exciting event that brought together students, faculty, and professionals to explore the applications of AI in higher education. The weekend long hackathon, held from February 7-9, 2025, challenged participants to create AI-driven solutions that could improve education, research, and administration. Cornell has a long history of hackathons - but this was the first one focused on AI.
Gary Leydon, Associate Director within the Educational Technology & Innovation team, described the experience as both inspiring and rewarding. "The hackathon was wonderfully organized, with 119 students and 57 mentors eager to dive into healthcare education through AI," he said. The event kicked off with a mix of engaging talks, team-building activities, and icebreakers to spark creativity. "By the end of the day, every student had found their team," Gary noted, emphasizing the strong sense of community and collaboration from the start.
The second day was dedicated to hands-on development, where teams worked on building their AI solutions. Gary was impressed by the students' innovation and problem-solving skills. "The creativity and curiosity of the students were remarkable, and I had the privilege of offering guidance on technical issues and medical education insights," he explained.
Amy Swinford, Director of the HSIT Enterprise Analytics team, appreciated the freedom participants had to define their own challenges. "It was fascinating to see the variety of issues addressed and how AI was applied to create solutions for education and research," she shared. Despite having only one day to develop their projects, teams produced sophisticated, impactful solutions. Amy said she’s eager to apply these ideas within Health Sciences IT. "I can’t wait to try this here," she said.
Kathleen Omollo, Director of the HSIT Strategy & Portfolio team, remarked that the event was a great opportunity to connect with other institutions. “I learned so much from watching the students in action- and how quickly they navigated the AI and business pitch tutorials for their respective projects. In addition to the student projects, it was valuable to connect with the other mentors from other universities and companies. We had stimulating side discussions with peers from Cornell, University of Hawaii, University of Oxford, University of Delaware, Virginia Tech, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and University of Notre Dame."
The hackathon demonstrated the immense potential of AI to transform education and healthcare. One of the teams that HSIT mentored received the “Most Commercializable Product” award for their standout work. For HSIT, the event was an exciting opportunity to collaborate, innovate, and gain valuable insights into AI’s role in shaping the future of higher education.
