YSM ETI's Technology Innovation in Medical Education (TIME) Series kicked off with the first event in January.
JANUARY TIME SERIES EVENT RECAP: From Ideathon to Pilots - Lightning Talk Updates from Faculty
The Yale School of Medicine community recently gathered at the Cohen Auditorium for lightning talks and demos, showcasing technological advancements in medical education. This event highlighted the progress made since the YSM Educational Technology & Innovation Ideathon last March and featured four compelling presentations and a hands-on demo using Apple Vision Pro headsets.
Jaideep Talwalkar, MD, associate dean for educational technology and innovation, discussed ambient scribes for improving student feedback, followed by Edouard Aboian, MD, associate professor of surgery (vascular), who demoed anatomy visualization model created with spatial computing. Jeff Dewey, MD, MHS, assistant professor of neurology, shared updates on a neurologic reasoning coach developed with large language models, and Lei Wang, MSI, head of technology and innovation at the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library, presented an AI curriculum search tool to enhance learning.
The audience was highly engaged, calling the presentations "exciting progress reports" and noting the event "exceeded expectations" and provided "terrific food for thought." This enthusiasm underscores the vibrant culture of innovation at YSM.
Attendees left inspired by the pioneering projects and their potential impact on the future of medical education at Yale.
